Matthew Ponsonby, Managing Director, Co-Head of M&A, EMEA, Barclays Capital
Matthew Ponsonby is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Mergers & Acquisitions, EMEA at Barclays Capital, based in London.
Mr. Ponsonby joined Barclays Capital in September 2009 after 11 years at Citigroup where he held a variety of positions, most recently as Global Co-Head of Infrastructure Investment Banking. Prior to this he was Co-Head of European Utilities, and Head of the Advisory Group in Japan. Prior to Citigroup, he spent eight years at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell focusing on UK investment banking.
Mr. Ponsonby has extensive experience of leading transactions across a wide range of sectors including public company offers, defences, demergers, disposals, reconstructions, demutualisations, IPOs, LBOs and raising equity, equity-linked, public debt and bank finance. His recent transaction experience includes advising BHP on their acquisition of Petrohawk for $15bn, BHP’s offer to acquire Potash Corp. for $40bn, EDF‘s disposal of its UK networks for $9bn and ENBW on Baden-Württemberg’s $19bn tender offer.
Mr. Ponsonby graduated with a First Class BSc from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).
