Following the establishment of KPMG’s Global China Practice in 2010, Thomas became the COO of the practice and is responsible for developing a network of Local China Practices to meet the needs of Chinese clients investing overseas, and multinational clients entering or expanding their businesses in China.
Thomas joined KPMG in Hong Kong in 1996 to lead the Market Entry Practice with KPMG Consulting. In 2001 Thomas transferred to the Transactions & Restructuring Practice to develop the Strategic & Commercial Intelligence practice in Hong Kong and China; since 2004 he has been based in Shanghai.
A Mandarin speaker, Thomas has assisted numerous companies in the with their M&A and market entry and expansion strategies in China and the wider region. This assistance has been through commercial due diligence on transactions, pre-deal market analysis, sizing studies and location assessments, and includes both inbound investment to China and outbound investment by Chinese firms overseas. Thomas writes and speaks frequently on business strategy issues and China’s investment environment.
Thomas has over 20 years of experience in Greater China, including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China. He has also led regional projects involving other Asia Pacific countries.
Before joining KPMG in Hong Kong, Thomas worked as the Finance Director for a US automotive manufacturing joint-venture in China
